Bringing clarity and beauty to the work of museums and arts organizations

ABOUT

Banks Creative is a graphic design agency founded by creative duo Timothy and Erin Banks. We met in graduate school at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2000 and soon after launched Banks Creative LLC, blending our shared love of visual storytelling into a collaborative design practice. More than twenty-five years later, we’ve built a niche portfolio specializing in museum graphics, exhibition catalogues, publication design, and event signage for arts and cultural organizations.

Our clients range from local institutions to national and international organizations, including the Gibbes Museum of Art, Drayton Hall, City of Charleston, The Citadel, Preservation Society of Charleston, South Carolina Historical Society, IBU, American Federation of Arts (NYC), International Center of Photography (NYC), Southeastern Museums Conference, South Carolina Federation of Museums, Virginia Commission for the Arts, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London), Battier Foundation (Miami), the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University, and the Daughters of the American Revolution Museum in Washington, D.C.

Our museum expertise has been shaped by designing signage for exhibitions organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Art Bridges, The Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation — along with programs featuring icons such as Maya Lin, Jeff Koons, and Spike Lee. Our work has appeared in national publications including Garden & Gun, Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, Bon Appétit, Art in America, Frieze Los Angeles, and The Magazine Antiques, as well as a cutting edge installation at Grand Central Terminal NYC.

We’ve been honored with multiple awards from the American Marketing Association and the Southeastern Museums Conference for excellence in exhibition design, book covers, annual reports, and campaign collateral. But what drives us most is a deep passion for art, culture, history, and helping institutions tell their stories with clarity and heart.

From the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and MOJA Arts Festival to the Charleston Farmers Market, YALLFest, and Art Charleston, we’ve collaborated with many of Charleston’s most beloved cultural events. Our studio is located in an 1800s-era building on Broad Street in the heart of historic downtown Charleston — and we would love to tell your story through design.
